Just learned of Laura Veirs. She is a young recording artist that gets put into the Folk Genre, but hard to classify sounds these days. Very nice sound and her latest CD is the self released July Flame.

I’m not a country music fan, but who wouldn’t like Randy Travis. He just seems like such a nice guy. Born May 4, 1959 in North Carolina. He is said to have had a rocky start with his brushed with the law. Since starting his country music career he seems like he has his life together.

He has also done some acting roles like several “Touch By An Angel” episodes and recently National Treasures: Book of Secrets.

M.I.A. – Grammy Awards

I didn’t watch much of the Grammy Awards. I wasn’t into most of the music being performed as I flipped channels. During channel surfing a performer caught my eye and the remote froze for a brief moment. Long enough for me to think…”What the Hell?”. A women is on stage rapping in a large polka dot diaper/bikini type outfit. She was obviously pregnant. I sat there in awe of her outlandish costume until the music annoyed me enough to change the channel.

Today on Grammy sites her picture is posted and she’s M.I.A. or from that group. I guess she was trying to make a humorous statement with her costume. It was probably one of the best moments from the show this year.

Joaquin Phoenix in Music?

A talented actor who has always come across to the public as a bit eccentric… Joaquin Phoenix is said to be pursuing a music career.

He performed in 3 rap songs in Vegas recently for his musical debut. Then took a header off the stage according to MSN Hot Gossip.

He looks like pooh in the photo they have posted of him.

Where have I been? I’ve missed lots.

According to People Magazine’s website posted Sat. Jan. 10. Fergie; Black Eyed Peas, and Josh Duhamel of Vegas were married in Malibu.

The wedding sounded very romantic and had several celebrity friends who are listed in the article.

Zac Efron

I had never heard of Zac Efron until all the little girls my daughter coaches were having a fit about High School Musical. Now he’s officially signed to appear in High School Musical 3. I didn’t know he had done anything else, but according to IMDB he’s done several TV shows. (It seems mostly Disney related) I’d like to seem him in something not hookie and see if he can act.

That’s the bad thing about the Disney connection, they appear to run their talent in the ground.

Miley Cyrus

I was thrilled to find on my last shopping trip to Wal-Mart that they had several “Hannah Montana” items. I guess it’s a new line they are carrying with the shows name. My niece loves the show and anything that Miley Cyrus seems to do.

It makes it very easy for me to pick up a little happy for my niece when they are that reasonably priced and convenient. I just hope Miley Cyrus continues to do a good job maintaining her image for all the little girls that are looking up to her.

Forgotten Artist of the Grammys

MSN had a feature of twenty or so artists that have been ignored by the Grammy Awards.

Artists such as Led Zeppelin, The Doors, The Who, The Stones, Hendrix, Queen. I didn’t find this unusual.

In my days (the old days). Rock/Pop music was ignored on those kind of awards. The Grammy’s were reserved for mainstream music. The only awards those above could hope to achieve was in the eyes of their adoring fans or eventually The Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame. Of course, it wasn’t around before some of the above had passed. The two names that I found surprising were Diana Ross and Madonna. I’ve always felt they were mainstream and commercial, so the only reason I can guess they’ve been ignored was their “Divaness”.

The awards probably felt they wouldn’t come to receive the honor.

I’ve net ever been a Tina Turner music fan except for her duet with Brian Adams “It’s Only Love”. She won 4 Grammys for her album “Private Dancer”; also known for her great legs.

There’s a new video release for “The Spice Girls” ladies. It is said to be racy. I have to say I haven’t watched it yet and don’t know that I will. But should they change their name “Girls”?
