Two very different birthdays occur on Jan. 8th, Elvis Presley and David Bowie.

David Bowie has appeared in many movies and TV shows, but is best known for his musical talent. He plays 14 instruments. He has been married to model; Iman, for several years.

Of course, Elvis Presley who I was raised listening to. I probably know most of his earlier songs and have seen most of his movies. His death only endeared him more to his fans.

I think Elvis probably has one of the most loyal fan bases ever. Years after his death his memory is still going strong. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that we can still see and hear him through the gift of movies and recordings. Also, Lisa Marie has been in the spotlight since she was a child.

Currently, a couple is planning to refurbish his home in Palm Springs, CA. Local tour guides are regularly asked to see the home which is not open for viewing. The plans for opening will also have a wedding chapel and banquet hall to attract addition business. I’m not sure how fans will feel about that.

Forbes.com reported on the “Top-earning dead celebs”. A few of the top were Elvis Presley, Kurt Cobain, Johnny Cash and Bob Marley. Some of the income reported was from sale of various estate items and others from released music.

There were people on the list that I wouldn’t have considered like Dr. Seuss and Albert Einstein, but a different kind of list for sure.

Jeannette Walls also had a story on John Travolta saying he was as big as Elvis and Marilyn Monroe.

I thought he was talking about his weight after seeing the picture that was posted with article. But after reading the article he was talking about his fame, but how well he’s handled it compared to them. He gave credit to religion and values that he hasn’t meet their fate.

I still think my first reaction was closer to home.
