Elvis Presley & David Bowie
Two very different birthdays occur on Jan. 8th, Elvis Presley and David Bowie.
David Bowie has appeared in many movies and TV shows, but is best known for his musical talent. He plays 14 instruments. He has been married to model; Iman, for several years.
Of course, Elvis Presley who I was raised listening to. I probably know most of his earlier songs and have seen most of his movies. His death only endeared him more to his fans.
'Chinese Democracy' Interesting and Enjoyable, Though Not Groundbreaking
Fourteen years in the making—or more likely, fourteen years in the avoiding—Guns 'n' Roses new album, Chinese Democracy, will hit the stores this Sunday. Here are my thoughts on the album, track by track, as it has been made available for preview at the band's MySpace page. Overall, it's a good and enjoyable album, but fans who are expecting a classic that justifies a fourteen-year gap since the band's last studio-produced album will probably be disappointed. Such an expectation, however, is
It’s a very Colbert Christmas
It’s going to be a very merry Christmas. Well, a hilarious one anyway. Stephen Colbert is going the Bing Crosby route this Christmas (hopefully minus the terrible, terrible abuse). He’s going to host “A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All,” set to air at 10 p.m. EST Sunday. It will be released Tuesday on DVD Instead of his traditional talking head suit, the comedian has gone with a cardigan sweater, red turtleneck and furry boots, and from his regular set to a mountain cabin decked fo
TV On The Radio - Review
**** Shepherds Bush Empire IN A rare London show, the Brooklyn art rockers last night showed why their list of admirers includes everyone from Foals to David Bowie and Scarlett Johansson. The harmony interplay between vocalists Tunde Adebimpe and Kyp Malone touched on the heavenly as super producer/guitarist Dave Sitek painted an urban sonic sheen on tracks from new album Dear Science, such as the malevolent disco of Golden Age and the string-laden melancholy of Stork And Owl. This is a band
DAY AND AGE
DAY AND AGE The Killers new album is SO FUCKING GOOD. I can't take it. I want to cry it's so good. I want to go to a gun store and purchase a gun and shoot myself in the head because it's so good. I don't know how they do it. I don't know how they take a year off to write an album and come up with this fucking piece of work. it's like the best of 80s bowie and talk talk and all those new romantics that did tons of blow but somehow made really great albums. it's like brandon shaved off tha
Art Of The Real
Ron Mueck is a London-based artist who makes giant stunningly realistic sculptures using fiberglass resin. Mueck worked for years doing puppets and special effects for children’s television and on the new romantic fantasy film Labyrinth, starring David Bowie in a Cher wig, before he began making models for commercials and advertisements. Eventually Mueck decided that photography “destroyed” the physical “presence” of his works and began making fine art sculptures. He first gained national acc

Stephen Colbert's Christmas Special For Charity
Written by Tim Saunders Stephen Colbert will host his own holiday special this Sunday, November 23, with the show being released as a charity DVD next week. “A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All” is an hour-long tongue-in-cheek extravaganza with the Colbert Report host belting out Christmas hits from Andy Williams, Bing Crosby, and even David Bowie. “This is just some good fun to watch during your eggnog-induced dementia,” Colbert joked. During the show, Colbert will be joined by W

So they’re all here. Enjoy. Here’s the playlist for Thursday’s “Life on Mars”: “Everything I Own” from Bread “Reelin’ in the Years” by Steely Dan “Life on Mars” by David Bowie “Spaceman” from Harry Nilsson

What's On Tonight: UConn Women; Steve Martin on '30 Rock'
When Larry Rifkin is on CPTV it's usually as a spokesman during pledge times. Tonight, he'll be seen in a different light, as a drummer in a band of middle-aged rockers. The trend is nothing new: Those raised on rock finally find themselves with the money and time to fulfill their dreams by forming bands with their buddies. In Rifkin's case, he's joined with Haig Papasian of West Hartford, Steve Mendick of Hamden, Antony Casagrane of Wolcott to form Boom, which plays 60s oldies and a few orig

DAVID BOWIE - “Ashes To Ashes”
(#464, 23rd August 1980) One metatextual break-up record succeeds another: but here David Bowie is breaking up with himself, and pop is breaking up around him, its structures fragmenting and sickening as the track lurches on. The music is a patchwork – snips and echoes of riffs or phrases jabbing across each other, somehow resolving into a song. Bowie himself starts to sing unsustainably high, his vocal line tumbling down and melting on re-entry – “Do you remember a guy that’s been” sounds like

A friend of mine died a few months ago, and I didn’t take it so well. Granted, it was just an iPod, but in so many ways, it was more than that. I had spent two years — a century in MP3 player terms — carrying it everywhere I went. At first it was a prized possession, never leaving my protective fingertips. Eventually, though, it joined me in the gym, got tossed into my backpack at the start of class and was generally taken for granted. It joined me for study sessions at the library, kept me co
