Celebrity Birthdays for March 17th

Happy Birthday to Kurt Russell, his birthday is March 17. My first knowledge of him was his work for Disney. Later movies such as Overboard with Goldie Hawn, Swing Shift, Backdraft, and one of my favorites Tombstone.
March 17, 1964, Rob Lowe. According to Biography.com he was a classmate with Sean Penn and Charlie Sheen. In the 80’s he was one of the “brat pack”. He dated Melissa Gilbert. Made movies like Saint Elmo’s Fire, and The Outsiders. Lately, he has appeared in TV roles in The West Wing and Brothers and Sisters on ABC. Happy Birthday!

Zac Efron

I had never heard of Zac Efron until all the little girls my daughter coaches were having a fit about High School Musical. Now he’s officially signed to appear in High School Musical 3. I didn’t know he had done anything else, but according to IMDB he’s done several TV shows. (It seems mostly Disney related) I’d like to seem him in something not hookie and see if he can act.
That’s the bad thing about the Disney connection, they appear to run their talent in the ground.

Obama to the rescue! Burning up in California? Well, President-Elect Obama’s got your back. Our boy’s campaign website is asking folks to help the victims of the southern California wildfires by volunteering their time or donating to the cause through his website. Finally! A president that gives a shite. China finally decided to check itself. The Chinese government announced today that will implement some food safety standards and start regulating its dairy producers. At least four babies ha

Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland

Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland Posted November 20th, 2008 by pauline There are so many versions of this story-and I’m not sure if anyone can top Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, but a Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland? Can’t wait for this one… Some of the star cast includes Johnny Depp as the mad hatter (good character for him), Anne Hathaway  as the White Queen, Mia Wasikowska as Alice. When is the movie supposed to be out? 2010, sorry! It’s in the making right now..check out some of the leaked p

Fearless Forecast - 'Twlight' Eclipses $60 Million

It will be hard for Twilight to match the hype. Ever since Summit Entertainment announced it was moving a smaller teentastic movie into the void left vacant by Harry Potter (which will now open in July), word has been slowly spreading about the film, and as I've maintained all week, I don't believe I can recall the last time a movie like this had its public image peak at such a good time. You'd have to go back to Blair Witch to find an accurate comparison, because like this film, nobody had

Imagi's Astro Boy Teaser Trailer Officially Unveiled

Imagi has unveiled the first short teaser trailer for Astro Boy, the CGI cinematic version of the popular Japanese manga character. I really wasn't expecting a teaser trailer this early but wow, this looks pretty bad. I guess I should've known it was headed downhill when the original director (who we actually interviewed) unexpectedly left the project. Up until this point we'd only ever seen some early concept art and other rough photos from the film, but now I wish that is still all we'd ever

Winning the Service Game: Benjamin Schneider, David Earl Bowen

Editorial Reviews From Publishers Weekly Looking for competitive advantages, service businesses seek to provide “seamless service” to consumers, a goal often undermined by employee indifference and independence, reliance on outmoded industrial management policies and mindless bureaucracies, according to the authors. How can firms create effective service cultures and customer partnerships? Drawing on numerous case studies (the Disney parks, the Florida Marlins) and 53 guidelines, Schneider,

The Permanence And Impermanence Of Social Media

A lot of what we hear in relation to teens and social media is about how permanent and persistent it is. I'll never forget the Google engineer who attended one of my first talks at Cody's Bookstore in Berkeley telling me — your stuff really is online forever. But what if it's not? Or if you suddenly can't find it? I know my friends at Alloy might be bummed that I'm posting this (they bought Sconex and recently decided to shut it down), but I have been fascinated by the comments I have been gett

Caution when purchasing Holiday Gift Cards

If you tend to give gift cards around the holidays, we have been cautioned that the cards may not be honored after the holidays. Stores that are planning to close after Christmas are still selling the cards through the holidays even though the cards will be worthless January 1. There is no law preventing them from doing this. On the contrary, it is referred to as "Bankruptcy Planning.’ Below is a partial list of stores that you need to be cautious about. Circuit City (filed Chapter 11) Ann T

Christina Aguilera Opening American Music Awards

Christina Aguilera is set and ready to open the American Music Awards on Sunday, Nov. 23rd that will kick the show off with a 7-minute medley of her greatest hits. Usmagazine.com broke the exclusive news, but I’m just going to rewrite it for whoever is actually reading these posts. With the release of her greatest hits album sold exclusively through Target, Xtina is going to give us a decade of her music in seven minutes. The performance is going to include Genie in a Bottle, Dirrty, Fighter,

It’s the 80s, stupid

Choose Me. DB here: In an earlier post, I proposed that film historians can’t safely assume that decades mark off meaningful periods. Yet I can’t help succumbing to the temptation myself. It happens every time I hear about how the 1970s were the last great decade in American film. We’re often told that back then, countercultural forces gave us movies of restless auteur ambition like Five Easy Pieces and Nashville and Mean Streets and Shampoo. Meanwhile, The Godfather, Jaws, American Graf

South Park to End With Movie

Much loved animated series South Park will have to end one day whether you like it or not, and creator Trey Parker hopes to end with a bang in the form of another feature film. "We talked about maybe someday doing a movie to sort of end it all, and that seems like the best idea,” said Parker. “That’s been a big thought to do the last show as a movie." In fact, he admitted that they had been saving ideas for the big movie, but most of them have been used in the show over the last year. He ref

11.20.08: Night at the Museum sequel pics, White House butler's story goes to Sony, and more

Night at the Museum has a legion of haters, but it was cute enough (as a rental, at least, which is how I saw it) and "Gum gum dum dum?" can still be heard around my house from time-to-time.  In any event, it made oodles of money, and USA Today has the first official pictures from the Smithsonian-set sequel, showing Stiller with under-appreciated SNL star Bill Hader (who is playing General George Custer).  I happened to walk by Hader and his posse the other week, and the man has presence.  By

What Up With All the Sharks?!

For those of you new to the blog you might be wondering if I have some sick shark fascination - and where it came from. The answers are: yes I do and because Tiburon (which really is my name) means "shark" in Spanish. And the blog title came from my kids. Once they saw Finding Nemo they walked around calling me "Shark Bait Ooo Ha Ha" for weeks (it might have been months). But I digress...back to my name... My mom grew up in Marin county, CA where there is a small town named Tiburon - she tho

Wall-E 3-Disc Special Edition DVD

I fell in love with Wall-E even before the movie came to theaters. The previews for the movie showed me that this was one lovable little robot and I was right. I think I have seen the movie 3 times in the theater and now twice on DVD. Yeah, I’m a big fan of this movie! Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment released Wall-E on DVD November 18th. I received the 3-Disc Special Edition Copy and I love it! All 3 discs are chock full of exciting stuff, it is just amazing. I haven’t even had a chan
