Axl Rose
MSN featured pictures of “11 Timeless Rock Poses”. Of course my favorite was the one with Eddie Van Halen or Axl Rose.
Also, caught in a good pose was Bruce Springsteen with Steve Van Zandt.
Eddie Van Halen
It’s sad to see Eddie Van Halen looking so old, but it’s good to know that he cares enough for himself and family to go to rehab.
The band will cancel their summer tour until Eddie can give 110 percent.
He seems like a nice person and I hope he gets to attend the induction of Van Halen into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Dierks Bentley: I wanted to be Eddie Van Halen
0 Comments Dierks Bentley: I wanted to be Eddie Van Halen By Brad - view all of Brad's posts November 20th, 2008 - 3:52 pm Dierk Bentley went to W.O. Smith School last night to play for — and with — the students at that music school for underpriveleged kids. Dierks said he has been playing guitar since age 13, and he is sure that helped keep him out of trouble. Why did he pick up the ax? “I spent four years trying to be Eddie Van Halen,” he told me. “And it never really happened. So I
Show Review: The Sour Notes, Ume, Marnie Stern at The Mohawk
Marnie Stern by Arian BrumbyThe Mohawk stacked their bill last night, giving attendees much more than their money’s worth for six bands on both stages. Attendees could choose to show up early for Danielson and two more bands on the outside stage, or just pop in later for the inside show, starting at eleven. To those who stayed for each and every band: congrats, that’s a lot of standing and listening, and you have remarkable musical depth. Some of us, however, cheated and came late, less excited
VH1 Metal Boys Punk Van Halen Fans
VH1 TV Shows Music Videos Celebrity Photos News & Gossip We knew the hosts of That Metal Show were wiseasses, but we didn’t know they’d punk a bunch of poor old Van Halen fans. They did, though. And it’s rather hilarious, especially if you think innocent French tourists are decent targets for ridicule. That Metal Show, starring Eddie Trunk, Jim Florentine, and Don Jamieson, is a new item on the VH1 Classic roster. It airs every Saturday at 11 pm ET.
Steven R Smith Live on WFMU + Interview w/ Daniel Blumin (mp3s)
WFMU DJ Daniel Blumin writes: With Thanksgiving fast approaching, many are going to want to do some fortifying before embarking on “the journey home”. Some may turn to drink, whilst others may consider more sensible pursuits, such as catching up with recent live sessions in the bountiful archives of WFMU. Of course, those choices are not mutually exclusive, but if one just absolutely had to choose, I’d heartily recommend the latter. Here’s one perfectly dapper reason: a few weeks ago, Steven R
Guitar Gods - The Cover Art
Here’s the cover art for one of my latest mixes - a four disc box-set called Guitar Gods. A compilation like this invites furrowed brows, lists of corrections, and plenty of harrumphing from all corners. Strike up the chorus: “But what about ____________?” There were dozens more guitarists that ideally would have been included, but four discs seemed like enough, and the line had to be drawn somewhere. World B. Furr (sometime commenter on this blog) was kind enough to collaborate on this mix wit
Recap: That Metal Show Episode 1 [11-15-08]
That Metal Show starring hard rock guru Eddie Trunk, comedian Jim Florentine, and Inside The NFL’s Don Jamieson finally made its debut on VH1 Classic last night at 11 p.m. Iron Maiden’s current world tour was the first topic of discussion. Trunk and Florentine made the point that fans have been psyched with the setlist of the “Somewhere Back In Time” tour making it the most talked about tour of the year. However, this episode was recorded on June 11 making this and several other topics somewh

Former Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar recently spoke with Classic Rock Revisited about the rumored fight that ended his last run with the group, his feelings on bassist Michael Anthony being excluded from the latest reunion tour and his own upcoming project featuring Anthony and others. Regarding the alleged fight on an airplane between Hagar and guitarist Eddie Van Halen on the group's 2004 tour,

Day 1178: Somebody Get Me A Buddha
BBC | ‘Buddha boy’ reappears in Nepal … Ram Bomjan, 18, appeared on Monday near the town of Nijgadh, about 160km (100 miles) south of the capital, Kathmandu. His followers claim that he is an incarnation of Lord Buddha, who was born in the Nepalese town of Lumbini more than 2,500 years ago. Mr Bomjan - sometimes known as “Little Buddha” - made international headlines in 2005 when tens of thousands of people gathered to see him sitting cross-legged under a tree for nearly 10 months, reported
Concert Review : Revisiting The Glory Days Of The Guitar Hero With Joe Satriani and Mountain
Joe SatrianiMountain (Featuring Leslie West and Corky Laing)The Kiva AuditoriumAlbuquerque, New MexicoNovember 8, 2008Concert Review by NightwatcherIf the era of the guitar hero is past, someone forgot to tell Leslie West and Joe Satriani as they rocked the near capacity house at the Kiva Auditorium in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Featuring more tone, notes and musical talent than one stage should probably hold, this show was a guitarist's wet dream.First up were heavy rock legends Mountain, whom, a
Might As Well Jump. Jump!
No, this isn’t a post about the rapidly aging David Lee Roth or Eddie Van Halen although I did steal the title from their 1984 hit. Today the boys checked out a place on Kansas Expressway called JumpMania. (It’s at Kansas Expressway and Sunset next to All About Floors. A Quiznos used to be there.) We had passed it many times and the boys always wanted to visit it so we thought today would be a good day to give it a shot. It was $8 apiece for the boys and the non-jumping dad was let in for

That Metal Show Kicks Ass on VH1 Classic
VH1 TV Shows Music Videos Celebrity Photos News & Gossip It pays to listen when music zealots are spouting off - it’s fun to get caught up in their passion. Details of Eddie Van Halen’s New Guitar Line on Tap From Guitar World
Eddie Van Halen takes his guitars seriously – very seriously. And if his description of his latest line of guitars is any indication, it’s going to be one fine axe. Van Halen says the new EVH Wolfgang guitar from Fender is “a culmination of my 35 years of experimenting with guitars. Everything that I’ve destroyed, stumbled [...]

Air guitar memories and more
Thursday Night Mix Tape By Tyler Laporte Do you remember the first time you got totally lost in a guitar solo or song and found yourself wailing on the old air guitar right along with the tune? Of course you might not remember the exact moment but I can pretty clearly recall mine. I will set up the backstory now so that the track is somewhat justified. From an early age, I remember my parents playing music in the house on our CD player, which had to have cost a good amount considering it was
Gang Gang Dance and Marnie Stern Are CRAZY
It’s no secret that in the past few years, Brooklyn bands have made significant strides in broadening the music landscape with genre-bending and creatively shifty, avant-garde endeavors. One has to look no further than distinctive torchbearers TV On The Radio, Animal Collective (with Panda Bear), and Grizzly Bear. It’s no surprise, then, that fellow Big Applers Gang Gang Dance and Marnie Stern bear some of that burden in their own unique way. But here’s the deal: I came into this show at t
