Rich young stars

Forbes list of the richest young stars had some usuals on the list: Lindsay Lohan and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.
Then there were a few I didn’t think of or expect such as Daniel Radcliffe of Harry Potter fame and Dakota Fanning of War of the Worlds and I Am Sam.
Also, the youngest star on the list Abigail Breslin, 10 years, who starred in Little Miss Sunshine and Raising Helen.

Hooks ‘N’ You: Richard Barone, “Cool Blue Halo” and other works

Live albums have been a staple of the music business for ages, and even if you’re someone who loudly proclaims to have no interest in them whatsoever, it’s probable that you have at least one or two buried somewhere in your collection, even if it’s stretching back to your vinyl or cassette days. I’m pretty sure the first live album I ever purchased was Wings Over America, which served as my transition from the Beatles into Paul McCartney’s ’70s solo output - to this day, attempts to sing alon

(Scandalist) • Alec Baldwin says making out with Jennifer Aniston (who recently guest-starred on 30 Rock) was “painful.” (Usmagazine.com) • Rosie O’Donnell wants you to know that the ladies from The View get along about as well off-camera as they do on the show. (LA Times) • Dancing with the Stars‘ Julianne Hough says she’s quitting the show because it’s hard to d

No Coat For Me

Why is it that every time I go in the store to buy myself something I end up buying a whole lot of things for my little one instead? On my lunch break today I went to one of the store near the office to find me a coat I can use at work. Gee, it’s 52 degrees outside but it’s colder in the office. It’s freezing here people! I was rummaging through the coats in the women’s section when I glimpsed at a really cute pink jacket hanged over the wall at the children’s section. Oh, I just have to ta

Shelli of Studio Mela is a dazzlingly talented artist, mother, and blogger who happens to live in the town where I grew up! I was immediately drawn to her work, chock full of lively colors and delightful imagery. I'm so excited to get to know her better. Click on the images to go right to her shop. Enjoy! Miss B: First off, tell us a little about you. Are you from Minnesota originally? What is your favorite thing to do during the long, cold winter? Shelli: I was actually born in Connecticut

Ridiculously Awesome Music Videos: The Pumpkins’ “Tonight, Tonight”

With The Smashing Pumpkins well into their massive four night set at the Windy City’s famed Chicago and Auditorium Theatres this weekend, looking back on their twenty year on and off again career is an emotional rollercoaster; euphoric, melodramatic, and exciting. And nothing screams these traits like their music video for “Tonight, Tonight”. The fourth single from their sprawling double decker dreamscape, Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness, “Tonight, Tonight” is epic in scope, driven by B

A star is born

This week, Brianna was “star of the week” at daycare. This is a big deal for her because every day they do a special activity centering on the star of the week. I’m sure you can imagine how much she enjoys being the center of attention. For Thursday, the parents were instructed to write something about their star. A poem, a letter, a story, etc. I decided to write a story, since I figured it would be more entertaining for the other kids than some mushy letter. In the process, I discovered my

The Great Pumpkin Homecoming (Night 2 - 11/19)

*Updated* If Tuesday was an awkward nightmare, last night was a lucid dream. On their second night of four in Chicago, the Smashing Pumpkins continued where they left off the night before at the Chicago Theatre. Much like the previous night’s performance, fans’ expectations were high, smiling and chatting up a storm before the lights fell down. A few remarked on Tuesday’s set list, warning newcomers of rarities, long jams, and extended renditions. Needless to say, this didn’t put a damper on t

Laughter - Thankful Thursdays

Sometimes I get in the habit of not being able to see the forest for the trees.  Today is one of those days. I woke up with a screaming headache and was instantly grateful that the Little Imp was at Montessori today.  Then I remembered that the hubby had an ass-crack-o'-the-morning early meeting and wouldn't be able to drop her off, as is the norm for the days she goes to school.  Crap!  That meant I had to lug my big behemoth of an ass out of bed and bundle up and take the Little Imp i

Hanover StreetThere's an elephant on Hanover StreetWhere is my Lucy Sweet? She was right here beside my feet.Oh, there she is, high on an elephant seat. There's a kangaroo in Central Park you know. Now where did my little Lucy go?I wish her bouncy curls would show.Oh, there she is, jumping to and fro. There's a monkey in that Redwood Tree. But my lovely Lucy I can't see.Where could my little sunshine be?Oh, there she is, way up high and swinging free. There's a butterfly perched on my ear.Why isn't my

Giving Thanks and Acting Up

A Purloined Letter from the Green Raven Last year I learned how important the farm bill was to the way this nation approaches the way we eat. Recently, I've been moved by various requests to have an organic vegetable garden on the White House Lawn. And in her post yesterday, Green Bean shows us how important it is to work for a reasonable Secretary of Agriculture. We need to make food a national issue, not just a personal one. But the way this nation thinks about food and the way we eat is at

Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa to produce Jerry Garcia biopic

According to the Hollyood Reporter, Little Miss Sunshine producers Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa are set to join their fellow Hamlet 2 producer Eric Eisner in the production of a biopic about Jerry Garcia. The three have just signed on to produce the as-yet unnamed project, which promises a revealing look at the Grateful Dead frontman's youth.

My pee is at threat level: orange

I apologize in advance. I’m a bit cranky today. Just thought I’d warn you. Proceed at your own risk. There might be a bit of TMI ahead. Just a bit. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Oh, and to all of my male readers … I’m sorry. . . . I swear to GOD, I am so tired of my bladder. My defective, faulty, turbulent, rebellious, unruly bladder. I’d call it ugly too, but having never seen it, I can’t verify that particular claim. Actually, I’m quite disgusted with my entire urinary tract system

One state...Two State...Red State...Blue State

One state...Two State...Red State...Blue State Well fam, I am in my last days here in Da Bean. I must say that my time here has been everything. It has been good, bad, happy, sad, I've had joy, pain, sunshine, and rain. I think I have brought a unique perspective to a city that is in some places still covered in past racist residue. Its been a unique journey as a black woman who comes from a place where the residue, well its not residue it still raining quite hard. When you come from a pl

Hexed #1

Written by Michael Alan Nelson Art by Emma Rios 32 pages, color Published by Boom! Studios I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again—more often than not, it’s not a matter of what story you’re telling, but rather how you’re telling it. There are some basic story ideas that we’ve seen over and over again, like a person who uses magic to steal. What’s important, though, is what you bring to that idea to make it feel different. Basic ideas are a dime a dozen. In the case of Hexed, though, it’s th

I found this really cool shell but when I took it back to the table we realized it was moving so I put it back in the water We got into Tampa and our rental car around noon.  It was exciting to walk outside and be engulfed in warmth.  I think I let out a content sigh.  And then I pulled our Nissan Altima (it was equipped was one of those buttons you push to start the car, more about that later) out onto Spruce Street.  Fucking goddamn traffic.  I had a moment where I realized again why I l

The Next Indie Hit?

By Phil Contrino Slumdog Millionaire has received some incredibly glowing reviews from critics across the country. As a result, many can't resist labeling it as "the next Little Miss Sunshine" or even "the next Sideways," a title which doesn't speak to Slumdog's content, but rather the fact that—like LMS and Sideways—it is distributed by an independent film chain and it could gain serious Oscar recognition. According to weekend actuals, Slumdog grossed $360,018 from 10 locations this past wee

Up in the air…

I’m back in Weimar, and I really wish the ICE trains would get fixed. ICs are uncomfortable (especially aged Swiss ICs) and late (30 minutes today). My east-bound trip over the pond last night was highly unusual. Despite leaving on-time, we arrived a few minutes late because we took an extremely northerly route that involved crossing over Greenland and over then northern parts of Iceland. The only previous times that I’ve been over Greenland, it was westbound, and we passed south of Iceland. A
