John Travolta

Jeannette Walls also had a story on John Travolta saying he was as big as Elvis and Marilyn Monroe.
I thought he was talking about his weight after seeing the picture that was posted with article. But after reading the article he was talking about his fame, but how well he’s handled it compared to them. He gave credit to religion and values that he hasn’t meet their fate.
I still think my first reaction was closer to home.

Anna Nicole Smith

I’ll be glad when the Anna Nicole Smith fiasco is over. The poor girl didn’t do much in her life besides flaunt her assets and make people question her sobriety and intellect. Her life was somewhat reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe without the politicians.
The media just needs to let her rest in peace.

Marilyn Monroe - The river of no return

If you listen, you can hear it call, Wailaree…Wailaree… There is a river called the River of No Return. Sometimes it’s peaceful and sometimes wild and free. Love is a traveler on the River of No Return. [...]

Mister Lonely on DVD

Out this week on DVD is the crackpot film by Harmony Korine (Gummo, Kids), Mister Lonely. It's about a Michael Jackson impersonator (Diego Luna) moonwalking on the streets of Paris for spare change who meets a Marilyn Monroe impersonator (Samantha Morton) who convinces him to go with her to a commune in Scotland. This castle-like enclave houses other imitators (Madonna, The Pope, Abe Lincoln, Sammy Davis Jr., The Three Stooges, etc.). Meanwhile there's an unrelated story set in a Latin American

LA Times interviews America's first transgender mayor

Today is the National Day of Transgender Rememberance, an annual commemoration to honor the lives of transgender people harmed or killed by violence. The day is also an opportunity to remind our nation of the urgent need for inclusive federal hate crimes protections. HRC has produced a new video featuring Allyson Robinson, our associate director of diversity, to mark the occasion. Watch it here: This morning, I ran across a story by Kim Murphy of the LA Times about the new mayor-elect of S

True Romance postponed ’til further notice.

The prettiest rockstar I know, Priya seduced me over to True Romance; a 50s night at Loki lounge. Only the club zucked up their booking schedule and everyone had to migrate to KiWi next door. Thomas was citing heart palpitations, not of the romantic sort but rather the crapola things aren’t going as planned sort. I even busted out my Marilyn tee to theme. Olga and I decided to bail out of tempo-True Romance so we could scheme and start making our millions (of dollars). We’ve got somet

Unchained Mini-Guide to Kingly Court

We are always a little slack-jawed when people tell us they don’t know about Kingly Court. For us it’s the ultimate shopping gem in the midst of utter mainstream mayhem. It is right off Carnaby Street, the little pedestrian chainville (alas, it is not what it was in the 60s) that’s been sung about by The Kinks and The Jam. We thought it was high time we put that right and shared the delights of this converted courtyard with you. The 28 or so retail units are occupied only by unique flagship ou

She gave a short interview to the press where she gushed praises about the President Elect, Barack Obama. Fox said she thought Obama was sexy, smart, slim, and a host of other superlative good qualities. Well, Megan Fox has a bunch of beautiful superlatives in her cocktail dress too. Fox showed off sexy boobs. The crowd lapped up

On This Day In Oasis History...

Stop the Clocks is an album by British rock band Oasis made up of Oasis' favourite songs and moments of their career so far and was released on November 20 2006. “Unlike most albums of this nature, Oasis have sat down and undertaken the almost impossible job of picking what they consider to be their finest moments ever. So 'Stop The Clocks' is imbued with the sort of willfulness that has helped make Oasis the favourite band of millions of people worldwide and its running order

Life images

Go and get lost in Google’s archive of images from Life magazine, dating back to the 1750s. It points to some stunning images of Marilyn Monroe.

Angelina is looking good

Oh never mind it’s Megan Fox. Couldn’t Angelina Jolie like sue Megan Fox for Copyright Infringement or something for stealing her image? She stole everything from Angelina. She even stole Angelina’s sexuality from her! What’s next? Banging Billy Bob? Billy is a pimp so that isn’t too crazy. Nice Marilyn Monroe tattoo, i still like the Michael Jackson tattoo better.

Robyn Hitchcock dreams at Hazlet (11/17)

In 1984, British singer/songwriter Robyn Hitchcock emerged from a self-imposed hiatus to record and release perhaps his finest solo record, I Often Dream of Trains, a strange hodgepodge of stripped-down, surrealist songs dreamlike in quality: haunting and obscure one moment and brash and vivid the next—paralytic while kinetic. While Trains, which Hitchcock refers to as “home really, the place I come from,” might have been out of place among mid-eighties rock—think Prince, Springsteen, and U2—th

Happy 2nd Birthday, Wii

It’s time to put on your sexy Marilyn Monroe costume and prep those vocal cords, because on this day in 2006, the eagerly-anticipated Nintendo Wii first hit store shelves. (Incidentally, it hadn’t been seen there again until earlier this month.)  The Wii has been responsible for bringing gaming more into the mainstream than ever before, and will certainly go down in history as one of the most important video game consoles ever made. Much like its great, great grandfather, the NES. So happy

A pop-culture road trip ... from your desk

Chris Epting is a wealth of pop-culture knowledge. Epting is the author of Led Zeppelin Crashed Here, Marilyn Monroe Dyed Here, James Dean Died Here and other books devoted to notable entertainment landmarks across the country. I've interviewed Epting about his travels before, and he just told me that he's been posting a bunch of photos from the road on his Flickr page. The pics include randomness like a snapshot of the first Taco Bell. There's a glimpse of a cool Jim Morrison mural in Venice

Life Magazine Photo Archive

Folks, another treasure trove has been opened up. Google has made the entire photo archive of Life Magazine available on the internet. (We loves the internets). Here's a description from Ewen MacAskill writing for the Guardian (UK). "One of the biggest photo collections in the world that ranges from the 1880s through to the seminal moments of the 20th century and on into the present day was made available to the public online from today. The bulk of the archive is from Life magazine, the premie

LIFE as I knew it

Google has another cool feature thanks to a partnership with LIFE magazine. They have put millions of photos from the LIFE photo archives online. In the 1960's, LIFE magazine was my window on the world of space flight. The photo above of Ed White's Gemini 4 EVA is a prime example. Just do a Google image search on any term and add source:LIFE to the search string to access this amazing collection of photos. Of course as a teenager in the 1960's, LIFE wasn't only about the stars in the sky. The st
