Jonathan Rhys Meyers
Showtime will have a new 10-part drama “The Tudors” which will begin this Sunday, April 1, 2007.
Henry VIII will be played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Meyers has such credits as “Match Point”, “Elvis” (2005), and “Vanity Fair”.
Others to star in “The Tudors” will be Natalie Dormer as Anne Boleyn and Sam Neill as Cardinal Wolsey.
Now I wish I had Showtime.
"Brutal dumbing down..."
Just catching up on a few items in despatches form the last few days, but I was rather amused by Dr David Starkey’s somewhat scathing (and some would say justified) attack on The Tudors which, as regular readers will know, I absolutely adore. Although even I must admit, coming back for a third season without Natalie Dorma’s divine Anne Boleyn is going to be a tall order… Starkey, speaking at the Cheltenham Literature Festival, said of the historically inspired drama series: “It is brutal dum
Podcast: Natalie Dormer of The Tudors
From Judith Klassen at Movie Entertainment: Natalie Dormer Judecast “Jude chats with The Tudors star, sultry smarty-pants Natalie Dormer about her brilliant portrayal of Anne Boleyn, getting paid to roll around with Jonathan Rhys Meyers, the brutal competition that comes with being on the A-list, and why she just might be willing to star in your indie film.” Listen here. Historian David Starkey blasts Tudors as 'terrible history'.
DAVID Starkey, an expert on Henry VIII, has slammed the BBC's hit costume drama The Tudors for its blatant inaccuracies. Starkey, speaking at Cheltenham Literature Festival where he was promoting his latest book about Henry, said the glossy series brought 'shame' on the BBC with its 'ignorance of the facts'. He also said the show, which ended recently with the execution of Henry's second wife Anne Boleyn, played by a pouting Natalie Dormer, was 'terrible history' and 'wrong for no reason' a

The Tudors: Season 2 (Review)
AS THE second season of The Tudors takes us through Henry VIII’s turbulent marriage to Anne Boleyn and his subsequent courtship of Jane Seymour, the makers were faced with something of a dilemma. Should they adhere strictly to history and show Henry’s physical decline? Or should they persist with a good-looking poster boy in the central role and remain oblivious to some of the factors that helped Henry become the enigmatic, yet ruthless monarch that he really was? Alas, with younger viewers (
Tudoroaks
How Simon Schama must curse the producers of The Tudors, so beautiful, so colourful, so…..Hollyoaks. Which means that it’s a must for anyone who favours style over substance. (Me). And despite knowing what happens in the end, I still hoped that Anne Boleyn, played by the superbly curvy mouthed and impossibly regal Natalie Dormer, would get a last minute reprieve, kick Henry into touch and rule supreme. In fact, coward that I am, I couldn’t watch her beheading, instead hid behind a cushion and m

Toby Young Night: A Maverick in London (Friday 8.45pm, Sky Arts) As the film of his book,* How To Lose Friends and Alienate People*, hits cinema screens, Sky Arts throws open its doors to the errant journalist for an evening of programming presented by the man himself. Of particular interest is this documentary profiling the late Dan Crawford and his work with the King’s Head theatre in Islington. The Tudors (Friday 9pm, BBC2) I can barely bring myself to watch this closing episode of season

Why We Fight Week @ The Flea... Episode V: The Ranking: Some may say officer's totty is a cynical theme for a week, suggesting an unreconstructed view of the fairer sex and a one track mentality on the part of the Flea's male readership. All I can say in response is... thanks! PR6! Woo! Woo! On a serious note: Paris Hilton. Related: "I'm voting Democrat." Also, Hollywood has transcended self-parody. I do not think the Greeks had a technical term to encompass this degree of farce. I miss
In the news: More on Natalie Dormer of The Tudors
From Kate Taylor of the Globe and Mail: Clever consort “On The Tudors, Natalie Dormer never let Anne Boleyn’s cruel fate get in the way of a good sex scene, but she also made sure the steamy bits didn’t get in the way of history.” Read more. From Bill Harris of the Toronto Sun: Another Boleyn girl “Being the outspoken mistress of a volatile king is a powerful position. Being the outspoken wife of a volatile king is a perilous position. That’s the dilemma in store for the doomed Anne Boleyn as th
In the news: Natalie Dormer of The Tudors
From Rob Salem of the Toronto Star: Tudors actor keeping her head on straight “Getting ahead in show business is one thing. Losing one is something else entirely. Yet that is what Natalie Dormer knew was in store for her this second season of The Tudors, which begins tonight on CBC at 9. Or rather for Anne Boleyn, perhaps the most famous of Henry VIII’s six wives, and Dormer’s continuing role on the sexed-up historical drama.” Read more. Share this post:
The Tudors
When the new BBC drama, The Tudors, began its first season, I watched the first episode, and half of the second, whereafter I gave up in disgust. The phrase 'gratuitous sex' doesn't even begin to describe what I thought was the ill-concealed soft porn nature of the programmes. A few weeks ago I happened to see an episode of the second series. As there wasn't any porn on display, I continued to watch. It would be an exaggeration to say that I was hooked, but I have continued to watch the subseque

Anne Boleyn (Natalie Dormer) from HBO's The TudorsI was flipping through the new October issue of Vanity Fair, saw this photo, and was dumbstruck -- DUMBSTRUCK -- by the awesomeness. It's the finest photo of a girl in a magazine I've ever seen. (The scan doesn't fully translate this fact as well as the full-page, full-color glossy ad pic.) So I made it into a 1680x1050 wallpaper.I never watched The Tudors because all that medieval/pre-Enlightenment grey-and-brown leeches-and-pox drabness never f
The Tudors Season 2 (R2) in October
News: Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of The Tudors Season 2 on 13th October 2008. In the second season of The Tudors, Henry (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) is finally free to marry Anne Boleyn (Natalie Dormer), however w...
Something old, something new...
While I’m still hoping that we’ve seen off the worst that the summer schedules have to served up (although I may not hold my breath too much), I’m finding my viewing habits dominated in turn by an old favourite and a fairly new kid on the block… The West Wing is, for many and varied reasons, one of my all time favourite TV dramas. Even in the dodgy years of late season four and most of season five, there was always something to engage me as a viewer, with few, if any episodes, falling short of
The Tudors season 2 premieres Sept. 30
From a media release: HEADS WILL FLY—SEASON TWO OF THE TUDORS PREMIERES ON CBC-TV, TUESDAY, SEPT. 30 AT 9 P.M. The dramatic history of England’s most infamous royal, King Henry VIII (Jonathan Rhys Meyers), returns in the Emmy®-nominated second season of THE TUDORS, premiering on CBC-TV, Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 9 p.m. This season the stakes are high—the King becomes impatient with the Catholic Church after it seems unlikely to grant an annulment of his marriage to Queen Katherine (Gemini nomine
SEXYBACK in the Middle Ages
It's the kinkiest series on DiBiDi. Starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Henry VIII, shagging his way through Medieval Europe, before finally meeting his match in Anne Boleyn, played by the luminous Natalie Dormer. And in between all the dignified couplings, this compelling account of the shenanigans of perpetually randy (what else was there to do back then?) 16th Century Royals from England, France, Italy, Portugal, and Spain, manages to teach us a history lesson or two about St. Thomas Mo
The Tudors’ Natalie Dormer sparkles at the London X-Files movie premiere
Natalie Dormer carried off her role as Anne Boelyn with grace and depth last season on The Tudors. She was similarly radiant last week on the red carpet at the London premiere of Showtime colleague David Duchovny’s latest film, The X-Files: I Want to Believe. Dormer’s next project, Fencewalker, comes from X-Files creator Chris Carter and co-stars Supernatural’s Katie Cassidy and rapper/actor Xzibit, who’s in the X-Files movie. Carter’s keeping the details under wraps, but rumor has it the
Marple news - 'Why Didn't They Ask Evans?'
From Digital Spy: Veteran actor Richard Briers and Bottom's Rik Mayall are to join Julia McKenzie in the third instalment of the latest Agatha Christie's Marple series. 'Why Didn't They Ask Evans?' follows the mystery sparked when a dying man utters the words of the episode's title in his last moments. Penned by Patrick Barlow, the two-hour film sees Miss Marple on the hunt for clues once again. Harry Potter stars Mark Williams (Arthur Weasley) and Sean Biggerstaff (Oliver Wood) also appear in
Not Enough Nudity On The Internet
Mark Cuban complains that there is not enough nudity on the internet. As strange as this sounds, he does have a point when you consider the types of material with nudity: It occurred to me that its possible to find porn. Its possible to find PG 13 type videos, but its really difficult to find R rated videos. Sure there are Playboy or Mr SKin type sites that will titillate us, and there are the sites where college kids go wild, but thats not what Im referring to. Where are the internet videos
