Richard Chamberlain

All the youngsters out there don’t know this one, but Richard Chamberlain is celebrating a birthday on March 31th, born in 1935.
He was known for his TV role as Dr. Kildare from 1961-1966. He also appeared in several TV shows and as a guest on talk shows.
His most recent appearance was an episode of Desperate Housewives. He also starred in Shogun in 1980 and my favorite The Thornbirds with Rachel Ward and Barbara Stanwyck in 1983.

Todd Zwillich: The FishbowlDC Interview

Say hello to Capitol News Connection's Todd Zwillich. What word do you routinely misspell? Barack. I leave out the 'c'. What's the name of your cell phone ring? "Life on Mars" (Bowie version) What time did you get up this morning? 4:55 AM. Brutal. When did you last cry and why? Watching the 'Honor Roll' of fallen service members at the end of News Hour with Jim Lehrer. How many emails do you receive a day, roughly? Ugh. 300. What's your favorite letter? I'm partial to Z! (

Let there be light

This time three years ago Rachel Stevens graced the good citizens of Belfast with her presence and switched on the Christmas lights in the city centre (apparently due to wrangling at Stormont the DUP and Sinn Fein couldn’t agree on any local figure to perform this complex task). Like Sainsbury’s and baseball cap-wearing police officers on bicycles, her appearance was yet another sign of just how good things were for us folk in peacetime Northern Ireland. Back in the days when the Christmas seaso

High Hopes for 'Australia' At World Premiere

A lot of expectations are riding on the shoulders of stars of the recently premiered Baz Luhrmann film Australia starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman. The hope is that the two-hour and forty-minute movie that focuses on "the stolen generation" of Aboriginal children taken from their homes and placed...

Return of Romo Probably Not Magic Fix Hopefully, Dallas fans aren’t getting unrealistic about what the return of quarterback Tony Romo means to this team. Yes, Romo is a great player, and the Cowboys must have him in order to win football games. However–as has been written so many times over the past six weeks–the problems of the Cowboys got beyond Brad Johnson and Brooks Bollinger (although both do get a substantial amount of blame because they are such deficient quarterbacks). Given the

A Look at Scary Books - Stephen King

During October's Scary Book Contest readers were invited to comment on the most frightening book they have ever read. I thought it would be interesting to give information on the novels or short stories that listed. The works of author Stephen King were mentioned more often than any other writer. Here (according to PVN readers) are his scariest stories, in alphabetical order:Bag of Bones: 10th Anniversary EditionScribner; Anv edition (October 21, 2008). Jolie Holland @ Highline Ballroom - 13 November 2008

Jolie Holland doesn’t sing so much as she rolls words around her mouth, chewing them up before finally allowing them to sail into the air. Even her most heartbreaking lyrics end up sounding delicious, literally. The fantastic acoustics at the Highline Ballroom paid justice to her voice as very few large NYC venues could have. It was my first time there, and in spite of surly staff and overpriced drinks, I hope to return there often, just for the amazing sound. Jolie Holland’s bluesy, soulfu

Biblical Studies Book Reviews - RBL 14 Nov 2008 - The End of Biblical Studies?

The following new reviews have been added to the Review of Biblical Literature (RBL): (Click on the titles to go to the reviews) Featuring: Hector Avalos, The End of Biblical Studies. Reviewed by Ulrich H. J. Körtner (Too bad for the general public - and me - it’s written in German, but I hear the review is great. It will give me good practice - a different day.) courgette: miss-r: Vagina Vanity Increasing numbers of women are tidying things up “down there”. Rachel Hills finds out why. Published in CLEO, December 2008 issue. It takes a bit of a renegade to speak out against cosmetic surgery these days. It’s everywhere: from reality TV shows like Extreme Makeover to newspaper articles about young New York women’s penchant for lunchtime botox, to the ubiquitous “I had a boob job and it was totally empowering” magazine profiles. If “looks are the

Strictlywatch 2008: Week 9 and Week 9 Results

Nine weeks into Strictly and I have realised my problem with this series: I basically don't like any of the dancers much aside from Ian and Jodie, and I don't want them to win because they are a bit rubbish. I'm not sure that anybody else is mad keen on anyone either, so in the absence of an obvious standout like Alesha or Mark Ramprakash, why not vote for John, seeing as he's at least someone you can look forward to watching dance? Yes, it's not a popularity contest, but who wants to watch some

Movies, A-Z

I've been tagged by Bubs to make an A-Z list of movies. The meme originated here.I'll take this one step beyond and list films A-Z that I really like (or love), and I'll heartily exploit international titles, titles in English translation, and documentaries as needed. Each and every one of these flicks is a choice that comes highly recommended. Here goes:Affliction (1999). Tour de force with Nick Nolte and James Coburn. Director, Paul Schrader.Blue Collar (1978). Paul Schrader's hard to find fir

THE CONDITION OF MY OFFICE

However, once production/planning mode passes, i do clean up. And when I know company's coming (like Where Women Create), I tidy up pretty good. :) Speaking of my office, I try to display things that make me happy and motivated. Defection watch: Labour County Councillor joins Lincolnshire Conservatives

Cllr Lindsey Cawrey (member for Lincoln City's Boultham Ward) has announced that she will join the Conservative Group on the County Council with immediate effect. Cllr. Lindsey Cawrey said: "I have become disenchanted with the Labour government and I can no longer remain in the Labour Party that I have served for the past six years. It has taken many months to align my conscience with my actions, however, I regret to say that I no longer feel comfortable in a Party led by Gordon Brown. My de
