Randy Travis
I’m not a country music fan, but who wouldn’t like Randy Travis. He just seems like such a nice guy. Born May 4, 1959 in North Carolina. He is said to have had a rocky start with his brushed with the law. Since starting his country music career he seems [...]
Will '09 be another rebuilding year?
University of Miami coach Randy Shannon delivered a clear and concise message when he met with reporters Sunday morning inside the Edgerrin James meeting room. And it was basically this: The 2008 season is officially over. The 2009 season begins now. Shannon told reporters he'll be on the road with his assistants the next two weeks, hitting the recruiting trail hard, searching for offensive lineman, defensive backs and tight ends to wrap up a recruiting class that already features 16 oral com
Ducks come alive late to beat Hurricanes
RALEIGH, N.C. - A three-goal third period to break open a tie game seemed quite likely given the way the Carolina Hurricanes had dominated the Ducks in the second period Sunday night at the RBC Center. Somehow, the Ducks turned the tide and snared a 4-1 victory on the strength of a power-play goal by Teemu Selanne and two big insurance strikes from checking-line winger Rob Niedermayer. “We were terrible in the second period, so we had to redeem ourselves,” Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. “We

Williams Cup Under-11 knock out
Ryan Hackett By Franklin Wilson Fruta Conquerors continued their excellent run of form at the junior level by reaching yet another final and will be aiming to clinch the double at this level, having already won the Courts Under-11 League after defeating Sunburst Camptown in the final, at Thirst Park. Yesterday, enjoying home advantage, Conquerors humbled Beacon 4-0 in the first semi final of the Williams Under-11 Knockout Tournament, at the Tucville ground. Inspirational striker Ryan ‘Bum B
N.C. State 38, Miami 28, Final
RALEIGH, N.C. _ Almost kickoff time. I'm expecting Robert Marve to handle most of the snaps today because of the weather. When the rain hits, his running ability could be more valuable. And it doesn't help the `Canes are without their top two wide receivers (Travis Benjamin and Aldarius Johnson). My prediction: N.C. State 17, Miami 13. Sorry, folks, but the `Canes end the year in San Francisco at the Emerald Bowl. FIRST QUARTER -`Once again, the `Canes are having problems with a mobile qu

Geniuses Like… Steve Simmons?
Ah what would life be like without the intrepid, investigative reporting that is the work of Steve “Mats Needs a New Hip” Simmons. Recently Mr. Simmons had this to say in response to comments by fellow analyst Al Strachan (whom I personally am not a huge fan of either, but I can’t let this slide): “Geniuses such as Al Strachan claim Burke inherited his Stanley Cup champion in Anaheim. For the record, Burke replaced all six defenceman, nine of his 12 forwards, including his top five scorers, h
The Day After: Old Spice Classic Recap (Day 1)
Posted by Zach on November 28, 2008 LIVE from Orlando! (actually my living room, but we can pretend) What did we learn from Day One of the Old Spice Classic? Tennessee is for real, Georgetown can’t shoot, Maryland and Oklahoma State could be in the hunt for a bid after all, Purdue may be the class of the Big Ten rather than Michigan State, Wichita State is no walkover and Gonzaga may be slightly overrated. Here are my recaps/analysis: #12 Tennessee 78, Siena 64: I expected the first game of th
Answers to Questions on MRUs
Answers to Questions on MRUs November 26th, 2008 This past week, I have been in the final throes of bug-fixing on a software product I’m working on. Looks like I’ve beaten the one remaining major bug into submission at last. In my last blog post, I did some rather minor rearrangement of a short section of a scene submitted by Lynda. Before moving on to critique the next submission, I’d like to respond to a few of the comments: Daniel wrote: I think two commenters said that this should be br
More Than I Could Handle
On February 13, 2007 my life took a drastic change. I was estranged from my husband. I lived in my parents’ home to help my mother take care of my elderly grandparents. They were 79 and 80 years old with one suffering with late stage Alzheimer’s. We also ran our photography/video business out of our own home. On that February day in the early morning hours my husband, Gordon Randall Gwathney — we call him Randy — broke into my family home totally out of control. I had never seen him this w

`Canes have lots to play for
CORAL GABLES _ It's pretty much a lock the Hurricanes won't play a bowl game in Boise, Idaho. They want to make sure just in case. UM is already guaranteed of avoiding that dreaded trip out West, but knows a victory Saturday against N.C. State would likely keep the Hurricanes in sunny Florida for the postseason. If the `Canes finish 8-4, they should end up in the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando. It's a much better destination than the MPC Computers Bowl in Boise, where UM played in 2006. Th
Randy Revealed - tagged again
The meme of the week for this week is the "Eight Things About Me-Me." Thomas MacEntee at the Destination: Austin Family blog tagged me to respond to this meme. Here are the directions: 1. Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves. 2. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules. 3. At the end of your blog post, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their name. 4. Don’t forget to leave them a comment te

TV Patrom: Monday: "The Age of Confusion."
"When the moon is in the Seventh House and Jupiter aligns with Mars Then peace will guide the planets And love will steer the stars....." This is what I think of when I see the previews for "Heroes" tonight on NBC at 9pm. Maybe it should be "....ashes, ashes, we all fall down!" instead. Our 'heroes' loose their mojo, and then where does it go from here? I'm so confused! Let's jump right into it...... I'm not thrilled with tonight's TV fare. Not alot of interesting choices. I guess I

Fruta Conquerors defeated Western Tigers 2 – 0 ; Santos dusted aside Camptown by a 3 – 1 margin; Beacons edged Thomas United 2 – 1 and Marian Academy gained a walk over from Strike Again F.C. Beacon United will now face Fruta Conquerors in semi-final one and Ma
Ducks, Blues scrapped from the start
Nearly lost in the wild finish of Friday night’s 3-2, overtime victory by the St. Louis Blues over the Ducks at Scottrade Center was the game’s crazy start. Ducks left wing Travis Moen and St. Louis right wing B.J. Crombeen dropped the gloves immediately after the opening faceoff, drawing major penalties for fighting only three seconds into the game. It was the first of three first-period fights between members of the teams. The fight was the first of the season for Moen, while Crombeen wa
NFTM: ACC, Big 12 and Big East
It’s rivalry week here at Fantasy College Blitz, and as we each vivaciously don the colors of our respective alma maters (all the while, trying to ruin those of our opposing co-writers with coffee, ink, or whatever is within reach of our laptops and newspapers), Notes From The Margin takes a moment to review what’s happening both on and off the field the BCS conference programs heading into a big weekend. Just a quick gander reveals the emergence of a new offensive weapon at Boston College in
Inspired fan pens “Vandy 1982″ for Dores’ historic season
You are so Nashville if… you write a song about your hometown football team ending its 26-year bowl-game drought. Inspired by Vanderbilt’s historic college football season, diehard fan Bruce “Commodore” Keedy created “Vandy 1982,” an ode to fans who have suffered through all the losses to witness this year’s wins. Here’s a selection: Vandy, please connect me With 1982. I need to cast those demons out for fans who’ve been so true. I reminisce of Birmingham the Hall of Fame Bowl blues. It’
NASCAR year in review for 2008....
This is a total look at the major news and events in NASCAR for the 2008 season. Toyota came in and fully dominated in the year winning races all over the place in the top two divisions. The mauled the Nationwide Series for nineteen wins and pulled in 10 wins in the Sprint Cup series. Kyle Busch started of the year hot and was going to attempt to win all three series in one year, but as the season went on he had to dump that idea to focus only on the Sprint Cup series. At the start of the
