Sally Field
Sally Field of “Brothers and Sisters” looks like the show is lifting her spirits. She has looked radiant the last few episodes, not that she’s ever looked bad.
She’s maintained her age well. I’ve also enjoyed the show this season.
1977 Pontiac Trans Am SE
Sally Field: “Does this thing move?” Burt Reynolds: “Oh, yeah.” — Like Smokey and the Bandit, the movie that made it famous, the 1977 Pontiac Trans Am is easy to dismiss as a buffoonish, overblown mockery of a once-great art form. Certainly both the movie and the muscle car are obvious, gauche, and deeply imbued with the cheesiness characteristic of the 1970s. Personally, I think that is at the root of their appeal. Last y

The Lifehack 2008 Gift Guide
It’s that time of year again – time to sally forth in search of the perfect gift for the special and not-so-special-but-they’re-family people in your life. Given the economic situation this year, I made up a list with a few criteria in mind: Nothing crazy expensive. Everything on this list is under $400, and most is way under. Sure, a 48-foot LCD TV would be nice, or a 64 gigapixel DSLR, or that 128-core gaming PC you’ve been looking at for your teen, but in these uncertain times, I felt it

BROTHERS AND SISTERS Season 3 Episode 9 “Unfinished Business”
Watch a promo from BROTHERS AND SISTERS Season 3 Episode 9, “Unfinished Business” airing this Sunday, November 30, at 10pm on ABC. Brothers & Sisters has been pretty good so far this season, but what I am really waiting for is for us to finally see Ryan. After Rebecca, I wonder how the introduction of a new brother will go down. Although I think we might have to wait for a little bit until we meet Ryan. Read all our Brothers & Sisters coverage. Episode Synopsis: “Unfinished Business” - Nor
Prepping & surviving Black Friday
Whewwwwwwwwwwwwwww. We came out the other end of this Black Friday. And all I could hear was Sally Field's voice reverberating in my head "You like me....you really like me!". WHAT a day! I think I made one of my favorite windows yesterday....only to have almost all of it sell OUT of the window by 4:00pm. I'll admit I was near panic a couple of times. Um....I don't HAVE 6 more Santa face mugs. I don't HAVE 2 more white feather trees. There are NO tablecloth and 4 napkin sets hiding in the back

God Media In Review: The Flying Nun
For years, I knew there had been a TV show called The Flying Nun. I had never seen it, so I always assumed "flying" was some sort of metaphor. A couple of weeks back, I was watching some obscure cable channel, and I finally got my chance to watch The Flying Nun. To put it mildly, I was shocked and horrified to see that she was literally a flying nun, as you can witness through the introductory credits: Can you imagine a show with such a thin premise being made today? Well, not only did ABC ap
Rodney Moore Writes:
Rodney Moore Writes: By MikeSouth AVN has graciously given me 19 nominations this year. I feel like Sally Field (”you like me, you really like me!”). Most significant for me is the nom for Best Music Soundtrack for “Vampires” (which also got a nom for Best Vignette Release) and Best Feature Director (for “Night of the Giving Head”, which itself got 6 noms, including Best Comedy). I’d like to congratulate my old old friends Tim Lake and Guy DiSIlva for their Hall of Fame induction. Mike
The Streep question
Will she be nominated for a performance Todd McCarthy and even our own Kris Tapley found underwhelming? Of course she will, because all due respect to both, they are wrong. I finally saw “Doubt” this week, and as other critics are making clear, Streep does some of her best work in the film. Whether or not she will win is another question, and the chances of that are becoming less each day as we hear more and more about Kate Winslet, who will become the Streep-esque actress of her generation,
Big Thanks to About.com I am grateful for so many things - friends, family and the dynamic industry in which I work. The Liquid Muse has grown from a fledgling cocktail blog in April 2006, to my full time business incorporating mixology services, beverage consultation, cocktail classes, spokesperson partnerships and my first book on its way to stores as I write this! You have probably seen me mention "Preggatinis: Mixology for the Mom-To-Be" many times. I am not only proud of finally making th
Government arrest opposition MP
Posted by cabalamat on 2008-Nov-28 Yesterday, Conservative immigration spokesman Damian Green was arrested and detained for several hours for his part in leaking documents that were embarrassing to the government: Police say Mr Green was held on suspicion of “conspiring to commit misconduct in a public office”. The MP denied any wrongdoing and said “opposition politicians have a duty to hold the government to account” and that he would “continue to do so”. He was questioned, but has not been ch
NCAA championship results, latest women’s sports news
Bowdoin field hockey NCAA champs 2008 Because I’ve been so busy this past week, I’ve seriously neglected my blog, particularly with coverage of women’s sports. This post is an attempt to cover what I’ve missed. To highlight - the NCAA championships for all fall sports are in process. Some results are below, along with other news coverage. NCAA Championship Highlights: The Emory women’s volleyball team won the Division III NCAA championship. Their coach, Jenny McDowell, was named Division I
Dolly on the cover of Playboy ranks tops
Dolly Parton donned the bunny ears for the October 1978 Playboy cover. Fox News has just named it their #4 favorite cover. They say: Here she comes again, and here we go. Dolly graced Playboy in full bunny attire: tail, ears, and double-Ds. That same year she won a Grammy for Best Female Country Vocal Performance. We're thinking the provocative cover boosted her career more than the award did. The covers that made the list are: 10. Barbra Streisand, October 1977 * 9. Madonna, Septem
I Feel Like Sally Field
I got an award from liberals, in which they accuse me of acting like liberals.
Metagenome annotation using a distributed grid of undergraduate students
I really tried to come up with my own pithy title for this post. First I flirted with "Pascal's Wager: Undergrads can do big science", then I tried "Public participation in science: you're doin' it right" on for size, and I quite liked "Annotathon!" and "Please note: this metagenome has been annotated by undergrads", but in the end I decided I just couldn't beat the actual title of the paper, published in today's PLoS Biology, which describes something called the Annotathon, a clever bioinform

Giving Many Thanks
Hehehe Turkey Day is upon us, and I will refrain from being one of them bloggers who laments about the bogus beginnings of this beloved holiday. I will however, take this time to look around and give thanks for the blessings in my life. IA-SEN: Grassley to Get a Serious Challenger?
The progressive blog Down With Tyanny! is quoting a Congress Daily rundown of the 2010 senate races that suggests that Chuck Grassley's free rides may be about to end. The success of Iowa Democrats in the last two election cycles has fueled talk that the party can finally take a serious run at Sen. Charles Grassley, who will be running for a sixth term in 2010. Democrats took over both houses of the state Legislature and picked up two House seats in 2006, and President-elect Obama won the stat
