Countdown: 10 Songs Led Zeppelin Stole From Other Artists

Led Zeppelin is one of the greatest -and most successful (see above)- rock bands of all time, everyone knows this. What everyone does not (necessarily) know is just how many of their songs -especially some of their most popular songs- they covered and/or flat out stole from other artists without giving any credit. In an interview with Trouser Press, Jimmy Page responded to the suggestion that Led Zeppelin used a lot of traditional and blues lyrics and tunes and called them their own: The th

Jeff Beck at Ronnie Scott’s - review

I recently got to see this release.  I’m used to seeing Jeff Beck from afar, in mid to large sized venues.  Apparently someone approached him about doing a few nights in this intimate little club in England and they decided to tape it. Good thing, too. The video is excellent, as is the audio.  The playing is pure Beck.  And when you look at the audience, they’re sitting at small tables.  It’s just weird. With Jeff is Tal Wilkenson, the (very) young female bassist from the past few tours, as

caution: sibling shot on the bleachers. Written, of course, by Sono Bono. From the first of only two studio releases by the overlooked Reid, who suffered as the result of producer, Mickie Most's mismanaged business interests; not quite coincidentally, the LP also featured a reworking of Donovan's "Season Of The Witch". Terry Reid famously declined guitarist, Jimmy Page's invitation to join the New Yardbirds as first choice in the role of lead singer. Which was good news for one Robert Plant.

Were they simply a broken-hearted horde writing psychedelic love songs? Were they galactic flyers in tune with astral days? Or were Freedom's Children just one of the best rock bands the world ever heard, or is it appropr

blowup

above are the yardbirds (Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck) in the 1966 british-italian art film "blowup" directed by Michelangelo Antonioni. the film follows the story of a photographer who captures a photo with a murdered minister in the background. the song the yardbirds play is called "train kept a rollin'", but they had to change it to "stroll on" for copyright reasons. check out the scene and the threads in the scene. below you'll find the steamy photoshoot scene in "blowup" featuring

The Daily Flash: I flash daily (US, 66/67 psych folk rock)

well... a lot asked for this band... hope you like this one...I ll re up "Jack of Diamonds" soon...please be patient, i have to rip it again!meanwhile..dig this one. Something to entertain. There was very little that they couldn’t play or sing. The music was diverse. They left a legacy. Their music is still sought after . . .These boys were not just ‘another curious’ band of the 1960’s. They were phenomenal musicians, fluent in a variety of musical directions, with two singers who impressed audi

A rare gem

A squabbling trio of male copper-throated sunbirds descended onto a Rhizopora tree by the mangrove boardwalk during yesterday's torrid stroll. One individual perched long enough to allow multiple exposures of his profile, although just one shot yielded something more than a dark silhouette, as the divinities of digital photography frowned upon my penchant for sins of the flash by blowing out the batteries. Now an uncommon resident of coastal forests and mangrove swamps, this sparkling sunbir

The group received the patronage of the Beatles & Brian Epstein then sadly disappeared from the thriving London pop scene of 1968.After having met Paul McCartney who was walking his dog, this Liverpool group really thought they were going to make it, and everything seemed to go in that direction. Terry Doran from Apple loved it, resulting in 4 tracks recorded tracks for a 1968 EP. Their man

Obama Should Govern from the Left--Center--Right--All of the Above

Advice is about as expensive as talk. Nancy Pelosi reportedly thinks that Obama should govern from the middle. The Gaucho Politico thinks that Obama should govern from the left. According to a horde of folks on the right, from retired Army Colonel David F. Bedey to the Chairman of the Arizona Republican Party to Newsweek editor Jon Meacham have repeatedly stated that America remains a "center-right" nation which requires that Obama govern accordingly (i.e, to the Center-right). Peggy Noonan does

Quantum Of Twilight AKA Dartflix Edition #45

The box office has done fairly well the past couple of weeks thanks to a few blockbusters and a legitimate comedy that can put asses in the seats. The weekend of the 7th was owned by the animated children's film "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" which pulled just over $63 million at the box office and took the top spot by a huge margin considering that it's closest competition was the Seann William Scott/Paul Rudd comedy "Role Models" ($19 million). The next weekend was another matter altogether as

It Might Get Loud: tribute to the electric guitar by White, Page and The Edge

A film on the Kinks’ reunion on its way and now this, 2009 is going to be an exciting year for rock documentaries. Sony Picture Classics is going to release a motion picture that pays tribute to the electric guitar and chose three iconic rock heroes as its ambassadors: Jack White, The Edge and Jimmy Page. Actually, Sony didn’t have anything to do with the concept. They just acquired the film from Thomas Tull, CEO of Legendary Film, and are probably gonna get all the credit. Directed by Oscar-win

Allen Toussaint - From a Whisper to a Scream

After receiving some feedback from Community readers, it’s come to our attention that our constituency would like us to devote more content to decent jams. So today, The Community takes a look at a true diamond in the rough, Allen Toussaint’s exceptional 1970 album, From a Whisper to a Scream. So much to like about this album and artist — so we’ll delve into both. While New Orleans piano legend Toussaint never received the mainstream noteriety as many of his musical cohorts, that’s not to s
